A tour of the dashboard

Last updated

The dashboard is built around one question: where are you losing conversions, and for whom? This page walks through the main screens and the controls you'll use on almost every one.

The sidebar

The top of the sidebar has screens that cover every app you can see:

  • Portfolio: every app side by side.
  • Today: what's costing conversions right now.
  • Team & workspace, Plan & billing, Audit log, Data export and Connect AI: workspace settings. Admins also see Security.

Under Apps, each app expands to its own screens, from Overview and Funnels through to Events, Goals, Integrations and Settings. Select the + next to Apps to add an app.

At the bottom is your name, which opens the account menu (Your settings, What's new, Help and docs, the theme switch and Sign out), and the bell, which opens your notifications.

Portfolio

Portfolio is the home screen. It compares every app across your workspaces. If you belong to more than one workspace, choose All workspaces or a single one at the top.

  • Can everyone finish your key tasks? shows how often people using keyboard, zoom, large text, high contrast, forced colours, reduced motion or a screen reader complete each protected flow, against people using none. The worst gaps come first. See protected flows.
  • The totals row shows visitors, sessions, views, bounce rate, session duration, conversions, conversion rate and revenue. Select one to chart it over time.
  • Engagement shows daily, weekly and monthly active visitors, and new against returning visitors.
  • Biggest movers lists the apps whose visitors changed most since the previous period. A sharp drop is often the first sign that something broke.
  • All apps is a sortable table with each app's key tasks, task success, visitors, conversion rate, conversions, revenue and bounce. Choose By workspace to group it.

Today

Today is the quick look, designed for a phone. It leads with an estimate of lost conversions across every app you have access to, then lists, per app:

  • Losing conversions: open cases, and tasks where people using an accessibility setting fall behind.
  • Top friction: the friction hotspot affecting the most sessions.
  • Fixed and verified this week: fixes that worked.

When nothing needs attention it says All quiet. Today has the same content as the weekly digest email.

An app's Overview

Open an app in the sidebar and select Overview.

The summary at the top shows the same totals as the Portfolio, for this app. Select a total to chart it. By default each figure is compared with the previous period; choose No compare to hide the previous period's line. Releases appear as markers on the chart, so you can see whether a change lines up with a deploy. See releases.

Below the chart are the breakdowns:

CardTabs
PagesTop pages, Entry, Exit
AcquisitionReferrers, Source, Medium, Campaign
LocationsCountries
TechnologyDevices, Browsers, OS, Versions, A11y
EventsCustom and automatic events

Once you have a goal, each row also shows its conversion rate.

The A11y tab splits visitors by assistive technology and accessibility setting, such as screen reader, keyboard navigation, zoom, large text, high contrast and reduced motion, with a row for people using none. See accessibility breakdowns.

Date range and filters

Most screens have a toolbar at the top with the date range. Choose from Today, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Month to date or Last 12 months. The range applies to every chart on the screen.

To filter, select a row in any breakdown: a page, a referrer, a country, a device or an accessibility setting. The filter appears as a chip next to the date range and applies to every chart. Filters follow you to every screen of the app until you remove them.

  • To remove one filter, select the cross on its chip.
  • With more than one filter, select Clear to remove them all.

Source, medium, campaign and referrer filters match whole sessions, so a conversion later in a session still counts for the campaign that brought the visitor. Other filters, such as a page, apply to every event. If a funnel or journey comes up empty with filters on, the screen explains why and offers Clear filters.

Tours and What's new

The first time you open some screens, a short tour points out what the screen shows and where to start. There are tours for the Portfolio, an app's Overview, Funnels, Friction, Integrations and Fixes.

After we release something, What's new gives a short walkthrough of what changed. You can open it at any time from the account menu.

To replay a tour, or turn tours or What's new off:

  1. Open the account menu and select Your settings.
  2. Under Tours, select Replay next to a tour, or turn off Show a tour the first time you open a screen.
  3. Under What's new, turn off Show what's new after an update, or select View what's new. All updates lists every past release.

Notifications

The bell at the bottom of the sidebar opens Notifications: alerts from every app you have access to. Choose Unread to see only new ones, and Mark all as read when you're done.

To choose what reaches you, open Your settings and go to Notifications. For each kind of alert you can choose Inbox, Email and, where available, Push:

  • Lost conversions: task success drops, broken protected flows and new friction hotspots.
  • Cases and fixes: cases opened and closed, and fix results.
  • Feedback and research: feedback reports, and study sessions booked or completed.

Task success drops and broken protected flows are emailed by default, because they cost conversions now. Every email has a link to stop that kind. Weekly digest email sends a Monday summary of what's costing conversions, the top friction and fixes that worked. It isn't sent in a quiet week.

These settings are yours and follow you across workspaces and devices. Slack, Teams and webhooks are set per app: see integrations.
